Overview

CIVIL ENGINEER (DETO-2024-20955):

Bowhead is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide civil engineering services to NSWCDD. Position is located at Dahlgren, VA, in support of projects throughout Code H30, NSWCDD. Services include independent facilities construction quality assurance, technical reviews, project scope development, field investigation, planning, specifications, drawings (in AutoCAD), cost estimating, problem and conflict resolution, scheduling and design production, and facility condition assessments.

Responsibilities

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide civil engineering services for Code H30 in support of work associated with projects.

  • Provide civil engineering trouble-shooting and/or consultations, providing technical and project advice and guidance to Code H30, NSWCDD.

  • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of professional studies, reports and analysis.

  • Collaborate with managers, other engineers/architects, construction project managers, legal staff, contract specialists and or contractor personnel, and provides advice and insight on the resolution of unique and/or complex engineering problems and disputes.

  • Provide technical reviews and review comments for project designs, including Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build efforts.

  • Provide technical responses for A/E and contractor requests for information and coordinates with Code H30, NSWCDD in developing Scopes of Work for required contract modifications.

  • Provide facility condition assessments and evaluations throughout H30.

  • Travel less then 10% anticipated for site visits.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the civil engineering field.

  • Candidate must have received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • Must have demonstrated experience in National Building Codes (IBC, IRC & associated reference codes) and Civil Engineering sub-disciplines including site development, minor structural, earthwork, roads, drainage, water and wastewater utilities, etc.

  • Preferred is a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.

  • Advanced (Master’s and/or PhD) Civil Engineering degree(s) from an ABET accredited program highly preferred.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or other professional licenses, certifications, or specialized training related to position highly desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is primarily sedentary and is performed in a normal office environment. The contractor may be exposed to risks associated with field work which may include moderate stress such as being exposed to adverse weather, riding in small aircraft, climbing ladders, crawling under buildings, etc.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
