Overview

SYSTEMS ENGINEER (DETO-2024-20584)

Bowhead seeks a Systems Engineer with risk management experience to join our team supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), E Department

This position will require full onsite work at the Bowhead office or Navy installation. No remote opportunity for this contract

Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer will support work directly with the client analyzing complex and unique technical support assignments. The Directed Energy Test and Operationssupport in the areas of design, development, system and platform integration, and deployment of Directed Energy (DE) systems and components.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform technical analysis for system/subsystem components and/or software, component validation/verification, risk analyses and assessments of component supportability and design effectives in the context of subsystem or other derived requirements

  • Apply Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) techniques and approaches

  • Apply focused or specialized knowledge to resolve design issues that have an impact to system or subsystem

  • Ensure the logical and systematic derivation of component and associated interface requirements into design solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints; identifies and quantifies associated risks

  • Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies at the component or piece-part level, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate component requirements into hardware and/or software specification

  • Performs risk analysis and management principles.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of lessons learned, SWOT, cause and effect diagrams, root cause analysis, fishbone diagrams and five-whys analysis.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provides guidance to senior staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline

  • Five (5) years specialized experience in the areas of development, design, integration, and engineering of Directed Energy (DE) weapon systems including pulsed power, high power microwave (HPM), high energy laser (HEL), and other related systems; and operations, deployment and sustainment of these DE systems

  • Experience in systems requirements management, systems engineering design, systems engineering software tools, and systems engineering processes

  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Teams

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
