Overview

TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS ANALYST (RDTE)

Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Systems Analyst to provide physical telecommunications support for the Corporate Network Design, Engineering, and Installation (DE&I) group in Dahlgren, VA.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Complete QA of Installation tracking folders which consist of verifying, establishing, and/or correcting drop details, logical drawings, rack elevation drawings, drop locations and ensuring all drop labels are to standard (checking both user side and cabinet side).

  • Perform onsite QA site checks to verify correct installation practices were followed, all drops were properly labeled and drop locations (with ID’s) are captured on the building drawings that’s provided in the tracking folder.

  • Correct any minor discrepancies that are identified during the QA site check. If major discrepancies are found, you will need to document a corrective action plan. Start off by identifying the problem and list steps to correct the problem.

  • Perform site surveys and design write-ups for smaller installation projects.

  • Assist the installation team (when needed) on projects that may require an extra set of hands.

  • Perform Communication Shed Audits when required.

  • Work directly with the AutoCAD personnel when any information is needed to populate new baseline drawings. Examples included: Cabinet layout with accurate component measurements, a complete end-to-end logical drawing that identifies patching information, patch panel positions, cabinet identifier, port information, distances between each location, identify any fiber optic pedestals, splice points, hand holes and manholes. Make sure all drop details are captured and properly illustrated (Identifying cable type, cable pathway along with identifying if any conduit (EMT/ENT) was used), distinguish the difference between surface mount and flush mount details, provide accurate drop symbols for each drop that identifies if the drop is flush mount, surface mount, below raised floor, above false ceiling, etc.

  • Perform site checks in Communication Sheds and Communication rooms to ensure clean, safe working conditions. Check for trash, make sure all cabinets are locked and report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor.

  • Perform site surveys if requested by supervisor or Physical designer to obtain requirements. Examples include rack space available, patch panel positions, drop labeling information, look for any existing drops that could be used without having to install new ones (Rapid Team assistance).

  • Review CAD drawings before date of delivery to ensure consistency (will discuss in detail).

  • Available to assist Code 1041 when escorting is required in security containers for various reasons (maintenance personnel, alarms, survey’s, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Know of Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) copper and fiber installation standards

  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail, good documentation skills, ability to write clear, concise project reports.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
